It was this lighter that I had purchased in a tiny village in the middle of a jungle, next to a beautiful river with class 1-3 rapids.
I’d purchased it because it had a tiny LED light in it - it was a torch as well. And the place where I was staying had power outages all the time, and I had forgotten to pack my flashlight.
So, as was predictable, the lights went out in the evening when i was having an animated conversation with some friends in the room upstairs.
Aw…let me find the candle.
Its in the corner there.
Am I the only one who thinks that Jodaa Akbar is such a major bore?! Hritik Roshan is a hunk alright, Aishwariya a beauty, the costumes are wonderful, the décor (as in the palaces) very grandiose, but the ‘feelings’ inexistent AND the story! What exactly was the story there?
Saurav Ganguly is out of the one day cricket team. I suppose a golden duck is enough to throw him out of the reckoning, though age and agility have been touted as the underlying reasons. I wish we were as strict with the non-performers in government offices. I wish we followed the policy of sacking politicians on age and non-performance basis. There is no fool proof method of ensuring that senile leaders don’t win election.
Lines of Grey is a project of social change through photography conceptualized and cultivated by Suchitra Vijayan. The idea is to provide cameras to the children, enabling them to capture their world in pictures. The concept is similar to the award winning documentary film “Born in Brothels”, where children of the red-light district in Calcutta recorded moments of their lives through cameras handed out to them. Using the donations from friends and volunteers around the world, Suchitra supplied disposable cameras them to the street children in Tanzania.
I went with a group of people I work with for lunch. The topic came to Paris Hilton and how foolish the American media was to give so much news time to a spoilt brat like Paris Hilton. I kept quiet – I was offended; it hurt me immensely that they were talking bad about one of my most favorite people. Nonetheless, every single one of them had read or watched a lot about Paris Hilton – if she were to come into the restaurant, I can bet that the jaws of these same people would drop.
Fellow bloggers, friends,
As you might already know, I volunteer at KBCS, a community radio station that serves the greater Seattle area. KBCS is a listener supported radio station with music, news and public affairs programming that mainstream media does/will not broadcast.
For the umpteenth time – my relentless effort to blog. The link is http://teachmetocareandnottocare.blogspot.com/
For all Rajni Fans in the US, the wait is finally over. It will truly be a worldwide release! Sivaji in India, June 15th. Sivaji in US of A, June 15th! Whoohoo! As a die-hard Rajni fan, I rushed to all the websites offering tickets for “Thalaivar” movie. The ticket prices made me jump out of my seat with joy. I was hoping the organizers would be stupid enough to raise the regular ticket price of $8 by only 3 or 4 dollars. No! They have restored my faith by doubling it to $16! Whoohoo!
I have been reading The World Is Flat the last few days. Of the many sound bites that pepper the book, the one that will stay with me is on page 256 where Friedman talks about how young people in China hang from the rafters and scalp tickets just to hear Bill Gates speak. He says “In China today, Bill Gates is Britney Spears. In America today, Britney Spears is Britney Spears - and that is our problem”
Love the name - Swajana (one’s own people)…
Its an ongoing video documentation of life in India
We had often had arguments on various things, albeit by email, and while we often disagreed, I admired R’s ability to think beyond stereotypes.
Once my senior in college by 3 years, he was now a professor at my alma mater and, interestingly, he now occupied the cabin and chair of Professor B (who happened to be one of the finest analytical minds I had ever met).
Sitting across the table with R and debating things with him gave me a strong feeling of deja vu, for I had done the exact same thing on many occasions with Prof B, and R was, indeed, a worthy successor of Prof. B.
Something about that chair? Maybe!
We spoke of several things, all of them disconnected, and yet all of them connected.
I also teach a course on storytelling, R told me.
Just a few of them in any case!
Recently I’ve posted couple of blogs on my blogsite that cover some of the blogs that I’ve liked (in fact excpept for Aria, most of the bloggers I’ve covered are non DSSers). I was wondering if we should start a page where everyone can add links to the blogs/articles online that they liked. Sulekha used to have newshopper or some feature where users could contribute with links to news items, we can have similar blog listing? What would it take?
Anyway, here are the blogs:
blog hopping and blog hopping 2
This is one of the crazy things I did when I was a kid. (Memory evoked - courtesy LaLouve). And before anyone starts bashing me for my shenanigans, do keep in mind that it was all in the spirit of schoolboy-fun and never malice.
When I was in post-puberty school, I had this neighbour/ classmate who had juuust started getting into the pen-friend thingy.
And that whatever else he does (or more specifically–gets all wrong), he will get that right. He doesn’t know it, but I am his secret champion where they are concerned. I want him to be good and beautiful in their eyes for forever.

It comes down to this FACT. I am being psychologically warfared by one or two or both of the following things. One: you know. Two: my biology. Or far worse: the intersection of these two…you know…because of my age. 26. That time…I hate to type the rest…in a woman’s life.
And I really want to say so but know that the fall-out would be disastrous. Utter calamity is what I would unleash, so I’m going to leave everything as it is. But these smiles had better get gotten under control before we next see one another. I plan to not give myself away…

“I have seen it done better!”
A Sly remark. Unjust. Unwarranted. Quick. Sharp. Your nerves boil in an instant. Just when you thought you could stand that person, they had to make you feel unskilled, incapable, unworthy and above all, disrespected. While your mind is blanking out with these thoughts, the offender has moved on to next item on their list. The conversation has moved on. You just lost your “Window” to get back. You lost your “Window” to ask “How can you? “. You lost your “Window” to say “How Dare You?”
