Recently I heard the news that one of my favorite supergroups the legendary ‘Return to forever’ will reunite [ Return to Forever to reunite in 2008 ] And I have been looking forward to some really exciting live performances being recorded during this summer. Chick Corea has been a favourite musician of mine for as long as I remember. And I’ve been a fan of Bobby McFerrin ever since I heard ‘Dont worry be happy’ on the soundtrack of the movie ‘Cocktail’.

A few days ago while browsing some titles at my fav music shop I came across a couple of titles:

Bobby McFerrin/Chick Corea : The Mozart Sessions
Bobby McFerrin & Chick Corea : Play.

I had heard ‘of’ their collaborations but had never come across the tapes or dics, so picked up both just wanting to check out how these two awesomely talented musicians worked together. What follows is my enjoyment of this music created by ” two young children with sweet tooth on overdrive in a candy store without parental supervision”*
If you ever thought that a vocalist making kidlike noises has no place in a Mozart concerto orchestration or ‘Round Midnight, think again. Bobby and Corea are not the ones who approach music conventionally. Two of the best improvisors in the music scene are in top form as they explore the music with passion, their skills are impeccable anyways. As they ‘Play’ exchanging notes after notes weaving poetry with animal sounds my feelings changes between pure bliss at the harmony and awe at their skills in creating such magic… It is a delightful experience as I am finding newer and newer feelings as I listen to these discs again and again, it has been a while since something like this had happened to me.

Highly recommended.

totcs and LL...

TOTCS,
It shall be remedied soon… Was totally tied up during the weekend, could not call to update on the concert… A brief, to the point review would be:
Though we did not stay till the end, what we heard was really good.
This lineup is better, sounds well knit and tight. Song selection was much better… I still have issues with their sound checks, because the harp mike failed them again… best part was, my friend enjoyed her debut concert as a listener. Worth the entry fees.

LL,
hmmm, so now you know who asked you not to worry and to be happy. Looking forward to your review of my review…

.

‘Dont worry be happy” - Ah, Bobby McFerrin is the guy!! That i didn’t know. I nearly despaired when i saw these names i hadn’t ever read/heard of.

i’ll come back with a review on your review.

Nice review

Cap’N,
I have a video of a McFerrin solo concert called spontaneous combustion which I know you’ll enjoy. Brilliant stuff. And I have to check out these albums after reading this review. Perhaps we can remedy this the next time we meet up.
