Watched OSO in a theater over the weekend. Don’t think we would have got a ticket in India so early but we easily managed one here easily. Not that I am a SRK fan or anything but it was a long standing ( well, 9 months!! ) demand of my wife we should at least watch one movie in theater. We had never watched a movie in theater or TV together till date. Various reasons but agreeing upon which one to watch is the primary one as our tastes are entirely different.
Talking about tastes, now I am realizing that in a normal 24 hour day there are few things ( or tastes ) we share in common. Staring with coffee! I just can’t drink coffee or tea. I never liked it somehow but only drink it if I am served without asking. But for her, coffee is life literally
She cant imagine starting a day without coffee. Being born in coffee growing family, coffee has to be perfect for her and nothing is going to be perfect as long as its coffee made from coffee powder grown in their coffee estate. Coffee powder has to follow anywhere she goes. Just like that Hutch Ad where the ‘Hutch dog’ follows faithfully! Btw is that dog still there even after Vodaphone took over Hutch?!
Talking about dogs, whenever we watch TV or go out, I keep praying there won’t be any dogs. She loves them and as far as I am concerned, I looove it as long as it is in TV or somebody else’s house. They have two lovely dogs in their house but somehow I don’t like dogs wandering around living room, bedroom and every other room in the house and their dogs have to sleep on the bed! If she catches sight of a dog somewhere, next 10 mins will be dedicated to rapid fire questions ‘When can we have a dog? When will you agree? That dog is so nice isn’t? Why don’t you like dogs?’ Initially I tried telling her that one (human ofcourse )dog is sufficient per family. Now I am using the best weapon - Silence! Not for long though. These things will come back after we go back to India and I don’t think I can win an argument there. Coming back to Coffee, probably only thing I like about it is the estate! Time stands still whenever I go there. They are just lovely with tall tress, ponds, small temple with its verandah to lie down and good food!! Being a SIL has some advantages w.r.t food, though at times I really have to say No! I am a foodie and she only believes in ‘Eat to live’ but a good cook though especially in the traditional delicacies !!
Apart from these sample differences, there are few things which we agree upon and those are really a boon for both! Travel, Trekking , Shopping, dislike of Bangalore etc. I always worried about ‘what if ’ scenarios about girl not liking traveling/trekking/shopping as much as I do. In a short time we are here, probably we have traveled more miles than friends staying here for year or two. After our first hike, I overheard her talking to her father saying it was more or less like walk from their pond to temple in their estate and don’t understand all the hype behind the route. Now am careful while choosing the place! Hiking is a bit of bore in US though. Routes are clearly marked out and camping is a disaster as almost everything will be there. Anyway something is better than nothing. But biggest thing is Shopping. I keep hearing horror stories of friends taking their wives to shopping and having to wait in some book shop or sitting in a coffee shop till they finish their (window) shopping. But she is just like me. Research first, go to the exact shop and exact place, pick the things and get out of the place. Being a student of the same industry does help her in deciding what she likes to wear and what not and worth of the goods. Whatever the reasons might be, I sincerely thank God for small mercies
This blog about OSO turned out be like the film itself. More of everything and less of anything. If you are a fan of SRK and wont mind his antics for two and a half hours and can sit through some boring songs and some (obviously) over acting, you can watch this one. As we came out, my wife was muttering ‘Backwaas movie but one time watch’. I kind of agree with her though I watched it purely because wanted to take her out for a movie and also I thought I can some fun. Watching movie here in US is another bore as people watch it with so much of decency! Oh common, what is a movie without some whistles and cat calls. I loudly whistled when Deepika came into the scene. Next moment I see people turning back to watch who the culprit was. My wife was more embrassed!! She never thought I can whistle and that too in a Cinema hall. After the initial shock, she wanted me to teach her how to do it, so that she can do when SRK shows his Abs. She actually wanted me to do that in that scene but I flatly refused (What the hell !!). (Did tell her whistling is not easy and as like everything it needs learning. She is now practicing for the next movie! )
SRK looks old. Deepika is not bad. Some scenes are hilarious like the one where SRK imitates Rajnikath. Couple of songs are good. Award ceremony is funny. As many of you know, film itself is a mix of Karz, all SRK movies, all Farha Khan movies and ofcourse Madhumati. How I wish I watched it with hostel gang and their families!

Piktcher ka Mazaa
CN, Vivek,
What this indicates is that all of us here (excapt maybe, the prim and proper pradzie) should get together and form the “Halla-Gulla Movie-Watchers Cub”, and go catch some movies together, 1st day 1st show, when ever possible.
Pradz,
Bhai, aapki biwi ka to pata nahi hai - ek ladki ne aapko tension kya de diya, aap to poori stree-jaati sey naraaz ho gaye! Chalo theek hai, jab tak biwi nahi, tab tak madhuri aur deepika hi sahi!
About your bacche, I can tell you that this will only prepare you mentally to deal with the language that kids will eventually start using.
Anyway, I recommend that you do not curb your animal instincts while watching movies or describing them here.
Confucius say - man who cannot be junglee in bed, movie theater, sports match, and chat room, is already lobotomize by society.
lol atra…yeh tho hamare
lol atra…yeh tho hamare prashn ka uthar hi nahi hua, mahajan! aur aap kaun se payd pe chad gaye?
)
Chalo khair koi baat nai…
And the Halla Gulla pikcher association, i think i can only laugh aloud, cant do none of those whistling stuff.
Vivek,
I thought the movie OshantiOm was ok dude, you suddenly sound like Rajeev Masand from CNN IBN. Itna bura bhi nai tha yaar… Am i the only one whos in love with Padukone? Damn…maybe i was sitting too close to the screen in the second row.

your shopping adventure sounds very much like ours ( mine and V’s) In fact V teases me saying that I’ll walk upto the sales man and demand the exact colour, precise print ( he’ll say that I’ll ask for yellow with green border , red dot inside blue checks on the right side of the pallu etc etc- he enjoys making the details sound atrocious) and my budget, get it if its available otherwise walk out without looking back.
Anyways enjoyed reading your experience- do come back with more…rgds to the missus…do tell her that Ms Anantha has been loooong dwelling in our minds and imagination and it feels good to get to know her for real…

I was watching the movie in a US hall, and of course, I was only one whistling… it was amusing at times, but Shahrukh Khan is the biggest representation of how “sadela” Bollywoood is!
There was a time when I watched movies in no name theaters in UP, Punjab and Delhi, where every movie turned into a celebration. Dhakka Mukka Ched Chaad, Gaali, Pyaali…. and kabhi kabhi to regulation dancers emerging from back and front rows!
Anantha...
very nice, very nice… after a long time you finally managed to not only watch a movie, but also pay a visit to DSS too… good fun stuff you’ve written. I love coffee and being shameless, I’ll invite myself for a cup of perfect coffee when you are back here…

But why : “How I wish I watched it with hostel gang and their families!”?
Pradz :
so many adjectives for that dimpled broomstick? tsk tsk, I must talk to your mom and ask her to put more efforts in finding a bride for you… your taste in babes is deteriorating as much as it is getting better in photography
Atra :
It used to be great fun watching movies in theatres and touring talkies… forget rustic people, even educated people used to shout and rant and rave at the excesses of the villain or his luck in being able to manhandle the hero’s sister…
These days, it’s no fun going to theatres. Imagine brilliant and hilarious movie like ‘Boom’ or ‘Plan’ being watched in theatres with hardly any reaction from the audience. I remember watching ‘The Five Man Army’ in Galaxy theatre during early 80’s and the audience gave a standing ovation when Samurai, played by Tetsuro Tamba catches the train again after a long chase… or the collective gasp when Captain Mallory’s hand slips during the long and arduous climb of the Navarone cliff… still gives me goosbumps.
anantha, after a longgg time
anantha,
after a longgg time a blog from you! man this was a fun read but disliked the way you described deepika as ‘not bad’. Bro, maybe it is because now that you’ve crossed to the other side or just to please your Mrs., but Deepika is not ‘not bad’. She is hot. She is diva. She is good. Goddess. Dimple Diva. Cute. Kitten cute. Sweet. Muffiin sweet. Man, after Madhuri, it is she im in love with. And this isn’t a lusty kinda love, but more of slavish admiration and that thing called 916 pure love. brrr…
Anyways, nice to see you enjoying your married life and saying all the right things to your wife. Watch out for those trick questions
. Do write more often.

This is family site! meri biwi bache yeh dekhenge tho kia sochengay?
movies and marriage
I always liked people who whistle and express while watching a movie. A person should have fun - those folks in the villages really enjoy films - they will go “maar saleku”, “hai hai, kya dikhti hai!” “abey chutiye, pichey dekh, villain abhi bhi jinda hai, pehley usko maar, phir heroine ko dabaa” and all that stuff.
I have had the good fortune of watching some films in the rustic communities and I tell you, it makes the most mediocre movies seem like total fun.
Have you seen Krishna Shah’s ‘cinema cinema’? Gave an excellent depiction of audience reactions.
Great to read your marriage and relationship description intermingled with the movie experience, woven with everything. Very alive.
