First time

chetiyaar's picture

It was right there. Going up in smoke. I moved in. I frantically looked around.

Should I? Will it feel good or hurt ? He sure enjoys it !

It was between my fingers, near my lips. It didn’t smell good. Yet, it went to the lips.

I inhaled deeply, the way his cheeks suck in. Immediately, I choked.

That’s when I saw dad. He was probably there for quiet some time. He had a strange smile that was almost invisible. For he knew, I will never do it again. It was too much for my seven year old lungs.

@ IW - sheesha study

IW,
I hope you really read up the case study at the link given by you, and not read only the last conclusion line like most people do Smiling

I quote - “RESULTS: The intra-assay coefficients of variation for nicotine and cotinine were 16.6% and 6.6%, respectively. The mean of cotinine in cigarette smokers (1321.4 ng/mL) was significantly (P = 0.008) higher than the mean cotinine (677.6 ng/mL) in HB smokers. The mean nicotine level in cigarette smokers (1487.3 ng/mL) was significantly (P < 0.0001) higher than the mean nicotine (440.5 ng/mL) in HB smoker….”

Effectively, they are saying that cigarettes smokers had *significantly* higher nicotine and cotinine levels than sheesha smokers.

The methods adopted by the so-called scientific paper are two - one is actually measuring the amount of nicotine, etc. This is valid. The second method is like a survey (not conducted over extended periods, but a simple one-time single questionnaire. Kinda like just going around and asking people).

The last conclusion line is interesting (“CONCLUSION: Smoking HB does not reduce the risk of tobacco exposure and it’s potentially harmful metabolites on health….”) because it directly and shamelessly neglects the actual measurements, but switches to the results obtained via a *questionnaire* (NOT the scientific study, which indicates something absolutely to the contrary to the conclusion).
Thats called paying attention to only those things which support the conclusion you wanna draw - a common tool of all fake studies.

Moral of the story - Don’t blindly trust anything that calls itself a “scientific study” and gets printed in a medical journal. Most of the stuff they sell under the name of science is in the same category as the flat earth theory or the scientific Intelligent design theory of amriki rednecks.

of shoddy scientific studies @ Atra

Mitraa,
My sole intention of flashing those “so called” research papers, was to show my concern for LL’s health. If those findings are twisted, then so be it. As long as LL notices that I showed some interest in her well being, i would feel that my comment served its purpose.

thanks

for the comment atra ! Says a lot ! Eye-wink

Re-valuation

>> why are you being such a…err…IW…???!!

Hmmmm, so Chetz has engaged services of Fizo to twist my arm in giving him more marks. Tell you what, I am not giving in to such blatantly intimidating tactics.

As a punishment, I am going to deduct 1 mark for questioning my judgement & integrity. The revised score reads as follows :

Score : 2.5 / 10
Remarks : FAIL Dancing

chetiyaar's picture

you GO IW !

(sing it ) Youve got the POWER !
(to fail etc)

Whiner san,

Konnichi wa.
You are beginning to sound like the daddu of HumLog. Lol @ ek point cut.
You are GOD!
Bilbs

Billi

You have inadvertantly confessed to being a member of 30 Plus club by referring to that double decade old serial Silly

bilbobaggins's picture

ah well

I guess it was more of a declaration than confession. Smug

Is that serial really that old though.

Being lazy, are we ?

Follow the simple steps given below :

1> Open any internet browser.
Type : www.google.com

2> Type : humlog + release year
Hit SEARCH button

Chalo I will spare you trouble.. 7 July 1984, thats the release date of Humlog ( Source : http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0363341/ )

bilbobaggins's picture

so ,

If it was released in 84, why am I 30 plus again. Puzzled

Calculated guess..

Well i thought few comments back you said that it was more of a “declaration than confession..” , so why get into the logic behind my calculated guess? But today being Friday, I will indulge a bit & explain the method behind my madness.

Group A : ( 0 to 8 years old )
I don’t know many 0 to 8 years old kids who would have the attention span to sit for 50 minutes to watch a serial like Humlog.. leave alone memorize & quote dialogues of Daddu.. Liar

Group B : ( 9 to 12 years old )
A relatively mature group compared to group A. The brighter kids among this lot may have the necessary grey cells to recall such old ‘n’ obscure details.

Generous person that I am, I would take the lower end of Group B range for my calculation. Lets call this precocious kid as “Chintu” for sake of generalization.

Now tell me, if Chintu was 9 years old in 1984, how old would he be in 2007 ? Whistling

p.s. 1 : I am discarding the fact that Chintu may have been born many years after Humlog was aired.. and that he caught the serial during its re-run or got hold of some VHS tape from some video store.

p.s. 2 : I confess (or rather, declare) , I was never really good at Logic & Mathematics.. Peace

Ya know

I was gonna add that I caught up with most of the serials on DD worth watching after they came out on VHS and CDs and all that jazz. Even then quite a few are missing. I’ve heard good stuff about Tamas, but haven’t been able to get my hands on it.
Mom bored me to death with buniyaad.
But, definitely remember watching humlog and do recall watching one episode of “dadi ma jagi”, prior to our departure to Doha.
Chintu Sticking out tongue ( though I wasn’t 9 in 84)

at 7

you tried the cig! omg! terrible terrible. i hope your lil boy aint doing the same! Smiling

Marks

3.5 / 10

IW ji

why are you being such a…err…IW…???!!

3.5 indeed…I would multiply by 2 and give it a 7.

That would sound fair for this story. me thought this was very well done. A slice of life kinda thing. Sweet, simple and profound at the same time. How many of us could boast of that Eye-wink

chets…aur likhiye!

btw chets if it had been..she enjoys it instead of he enjoys it! I would have given it a 9 Sticking out tongue

chetiyaar's picture

she ???

that wouldnt fit in at all fizo !!

chetiyaar's picture

I have elicited the impossible ! A negative feedback finally !!!!

Chetz

3.5 is positive in my books. Was originally planning to give you 3 marks, but then dosti ke khaatir 1/2 mark jyaada de diyaa. You passed, albeit, just barely. Thats not a bad thing for a first timer, kyu ?

chetiyaar's picture

hmm

pass mark 3.5 kya ? i though 4.0 ! I was just going to go to the teacher and beg my way through the .5 mark ! now i am fine !

chetiyaar's picture

okay ...

that was a exercise in writing a story in 100 words ! - thats little context !
