True Romance - the movie

Recently I picked up the screenplay of "True Romance" written by Quentin Tarantino. I must confess, I am not a movie freak. In this day & age, I don’t own a VCD / DVD player. For that matter, I don’t even own a PC of my own.

ThanxGiving

Atraa, I can’t add anything more intelligent & insightful than what U have already said.. so would just say thanx for filling in for me Smiling

I will do the less intellegent job of thanking Silo , Asuph & Yourself for gracing this post with your (individual) presence.. ( sic, this is sounding like some lame thanks giving speech after some lame awards ceremony )

screenplays

A screenplay is the most basic foundation of any movie. It is a popular saying that you can make a lousy movie from a great script, but you can never make a good movie from a lousy script.
That said and done, making a movie is a lot lot tougher than writing a script.
The trick here, as it is for every creation, is the ability to either be supremely uncompromising on the script, or have the even tougher ability to be able to step back in the middle of creation and see if it is coherent. This involves, first and foremost, the ability to NOT fall in love with your own work - but to be able to always see it as a layman when you step back to review it. The biggest confusion can arise when one falls in love with one’s own idea and fails to see how it is not coherent as a whole. For, a creation is more than its bits and pieces. When you watch a movie, it is sometimes so easy to tell which scenes have been put in later, and are not congruent with the rest of the script.
To prevent this from happening, hollywood has deployed the technique of getting a script written by one person, and then any changes are done by other good script-writers, who can see it from a fresh perspective, and thus can put in the right touches to make it more complete.
The mark of a supreme talent in direction/script-writing is the ability to have a whole lot of separate scenes, which still are fully consistent with the central ethos of the overall story.

IW

Hey IW; I think Q’s stories /screenplays are much better than the eventual movies. A couple of years back I had the Q fever; I went online and read each every word I could find on him and each and every word he had written. But why does it have to be so violent? I loved the “Natural Born Killers” story that Q had written but the movie was really weird!! Did anyone here like NBK??

Mellow Silo

Looooooooooooooong Timeeeeeeeeeeee.
Whats with these sporadic, UFO like sightings ? Hope U are doing good, do visit us poor earthlings more often. I wouldn’t really know if Q’s scripts are better than the movies. The reason being I have not seen any of his movies Smiling) Even “Pulp Fiction”, I have just read the screenplay, never got around to see the movie.

About why “so violent” ??? Well coz life is like that ! Aren’t you reading the newspapers & watching news channels ? Atleast, Q punctuates the violence with generous dose of sardonic wit & panache.

Glad that you un-lurked & left a comment. Many thanx.

lady...

u trying to tell us that the screenplay of pulp fiction is better than the movie? are u kidding me? yes the screeplay is great but the movie! well.

NBK was done by Oliver Stone, right? i’m ambivalent about the guy…

Anyways, welcome back Smiling
