Music reviews and a short ramble

I have heard about this movie ‘Godavari’ from my wife. One of her most favourite student has played the ‘second hero’. She was quite unhappy with the whole thing. He was the most brilliant architecture student she taught and was expecting some spectacular work from him. Last time she was in Hyderabad, she met him eager to know what he was up to and that was when she knew he is now into acting and was working with Sekhar Kummula (the chap who made Dollar Dreams and award winning Anand). Actually, while he was studying, he was helping some art director and was into set design, which he always said was to earn some money.

Couple of days ago he called to say that the audio of the movie has been released and wanted her to listen to it on raaga.com. She did not but asked me to. She still hopes that this acting is a passing phase and that he does get back to architecture one day.

I looked up to see that the music was composed by Radhakrishnan, the same person who made Anand. I guess that was also the last of the good movies that came out in Telugu and that was in 2004. Anyway, you cannot hold me to it as I am completely out of the movie scene. I liked the music of Anand very much. Especially the songs Yamunateeram, Nuvvenaa na nuvvena, Chaarumati, Yedalogaanam.

Coming back to Godavari, the lyrics are easy and tunes simple and catchy with a classical lilt to them. Some of the songs are similar to Anand but am not complaining. Of the lot I liked the song Manasevacha, Anadagaleenu, Ramachakkani Sitaki. After rather loud dose of music that can be heard everywhere in the South, sometimes the same song even, these songs are refreshing to listen. Thats all I can say when it comes to music. It is good to listen to. Some of you who would not mind listening to some gult music, do click on the links.

This music-thing came up in the last minute. Actually, since a last few days have been meaning to blog about a small town on east coast: Bheemilipatnam. Some of you may know that this was an old Dutch port when the likes of Machilipatnam and Nagapatnam were more important than Chennai or Visakhapatnam. Wanted to pictorially compare the building heritage of this place to few small Dutch port towns. I had to take my wife to this place twice as the first time she could not get the photos she wanted as the dusk fell too quickly and wanted to go again later.

Next time we went there, it was on a mobike. It was after a real long time both of us were on a bike going out for a long drive. For years our mobike was the only transport and I was working in a village 50 km from Vizag and we made so many trips there: about 30,000 Km in all (most of it alone though). It was great to be on a bike again, that too early in the morning with the nice warm sun and the sea on the right almost all along the way and a nice winding road in the front. Ah Vizag-Bhimli beach road!! One good outcome of this trip was that I came back and got my mobike repaired. Now to zoom around (as much as my old bike can) in Chennai.
