Godspeed, Dr. Raj

Captain Nemo's picture

Dr. Rajkumar, icon of the Kannada film industry, awesome actor and an amazing human being, passed away today at about 2:00PM. Details are still sketchy but the cause is attributed to cardiac arrest.
I’m an ardent admirer of his histrionic abilities which covered such diverse roles from mythlogical characters to even James Bond type thrillers, heroic characters to negative characters… There were no limits his talents while portraying even the most complicated roles. A good singer, who became a great singer because of his dedication and discipline in understanding the nuances of the lyrics and communicating it. His clarity of speech and pronunciation was impeccable. A front runner when it came to fight for Kannada’s cause, he was the face of a few struggles for getting Kannada it’s rightful place under the sun. If I set out to list his memorable performances, I’d have to list all his 200 odd films.
To one of my idols [and I dont have many] whom I’ve lost today, I take my hat off, bow my head and pray that his soul rest in peace…

So you are saying that we are not retarded when we riot at someone’s funeral, but there was a genuine provocation for that?
Fair enough, captain.

The papers never said that there was any reason for rioting. But now that there is reason, I am sure there is ample justification, which was there the earlier times that riots have broken up at funerals, too. Someone pointed at NTR and MGR examples, too.
I really have no problem with bandhs, so long as they are not forced on anyone.
I do have a problem with rioting - I have seen families about to be burnt alive inside their cars, about 100 meters away from me.

Idiotic

Rioting because a loved and popular actor died?

Is there some reason to this, was there any foul play suspected, or are we rioting because we indians are retards??

Really pathetic, if you ask me. And even if you dont ask me, actually.

ignorance...

making provocative judgements about other people’s intelligence doesn’t make one a wise man…
Riots, as claimed by the english media generally did not happen all over Bangalore. One cannot know what’s happening around the world sitting in some room thousands of kilometers away and pass judgements based on what’s on some news channel or newspaper.

Riots did not happen because anyone suspected foulplay. Riots did not happen because Indians are retards.

Riots happened only in areas where the thespian’s body was kept and taken in procession. The reason was bad arrangement while the body was kept in state, hasty arrangements made for the funeral because of the family’s wishes based on astrological considerations. When you have lakhs of people thronging to get a final glimpse of the great man, there would be breaches of security, which could have been better handled. People had been waiting for sleepless hours just to bid final farewell when the body was removed without even announcements.
Coming to the aspect of bundh, de Silva, it was not enforced, it was spontaneous. Call it fear, call it respect, idiocy or whatever other thing you want to call. I was out when we got the news, no one came and asked anyone to shut shop. I’d like to remind, that even when he was kidnapped, no one enforced any kind of bundhs, it was spontaneous, irrespective of what the english media made it look like. Sure there will be some unscrupulous people who misuse the opportunities these kind of unfortunate events provide and cannot be denied. It happens even in the US of A. Lets keep things in perspective and remember when the Los Angeles burned because of the Rodney King affair. In Bangalore, hundreds of fans who already felt cheated of an opportunity to see their demi-god for a final time were beaten up after being made to wait for hours. When people become a mob, it doesn’t need a matchstick to light a big fire, a tiny spark will do. Indians are humans too, perhaps more so…

Sad day on all many counts....

Great actor….even greater human being. It’s highly improbable that anyone in the Kannada film industry have ever and will ever reach his accomplishments…

BUT

I pity that even 1 % of his greatness, humility and peace-loving nature has not rubbed off on many of his fans…it is ridiculous to think that 2 business days in a city like Bangalore has been wiped out due to the bandh…and rioting, burning buses, pelting stones is not the way to pay respects and honor the man.

To me it almost seems to belittle the sanctity of the event that has occured…sad days indeed.

I just hope all this nonsense subsides so that the family can mourn in peace.

May his soul rest in peace..

Saddened immensely by the passing away of a legend. I always respected him not just as an actor BUT as a human being.

Looks like the whole of

Looks like the whole of Karnataka is going to assemble tommorow in Bangalore to pay homage to Dr. rajkumar. Just going through the comments in CNN IBN’s website gives a keyhole insight of the impact the man has had on the State and its people. Its staggering…

Amen

It is with great sadness that I received this news. It signifies the end of an era, not just for the movie industry, but to every person that lived in the golden years of Dr. Rajkumar’s cinema. The sadness is accentuated by a feeling of treason, when demigods are rendered mortal…

I really hope the city has a peaceful mourning for this man unlike reports coming in from various parts of the city.
