Once upon a time, 2:44 a.m. to be precise, there lived a minute with her children seconds. Children passed away into nothingness and the mother just watched her mortal children flicker. Soon the mother passed away too. But another expectant mother was waiting, waiting to bear the redundant 60 children. 2:45 a.m. These kids were fast. Blink and the kids saw their life flash before them. "Fast life" the mother sighed. That was her last. Few more unloved kin pass away
Watching all this was the Granda 3 a.m. who saw the horizon setting down in the dark silhouette of an arrow, smiled. He had lived to see his 60 kids and 3540 grand children who albiet the infant mortality rate had lived to see the life and be part of something bigger, however insignificant their work and presence was.
Just then Granda comes up with a plan ingenuite. Kidnap his favourite grandchild 3 from his 59th daughter. Without the 3rd grandchild, their wouldn’t be 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10…. 58, 59, 60 seconds. Granda would live forever, never to die, an immortal among the dead. He would rein the grandfather’s clock, the undefiable dimension, its paradoxes, laugh at Albert, and most of all see the end of the cuckoo who wouldn’t sing again out of his little window.
Imagine !

I wrote while i was waiting to go the railway station heading homewards to kerala. Was bored and wrote something along the poetic lines (sucked) and deleted and then wrote this, glad you guys liked it. Waited for a while when DeSilva cracked upon the scene with his “DUUUDE”, happy with the result, i left.

beautiful anaolgy, Pradzie….and now ,I’m remembering something…wasn’t that cave-man cave-woman piece on sulekha, looong ago…written by u… where Adam and Eve wonder about their purpose in life?
“He had lived to see his 60 kids and 3540 grand children who albiet the infant mortality rate had lived to see the life and be part of something bigger, however insignificant their work and presence was…”
it’s funny, how comforting this thought is….that we’re all a part of something bigger, something grander that we just can’t see…and maybe tomorrow, or day after…or a year later..or maybe a two, we would realize what is it…and then it would put to rest all our doubts - of life…or something like it…
it’s funny how when that day never comes, and when the quest for that ‘grander scheme of things’ subsides, it’s so difficult to make peace with just ‘being’ for ordinary reasons and ordinary things…
enig
Second that
Neat piece, Pradzie. Very creative!
Pradz bhai,
loved this little piece. You should write more in this vein.
Still waiting for your blog of the century ( hair getting longer and I was wondering If I could save on some money and get it pulled here)
That said, the first time I read this piece, I was reminded of the surdy joke explaining the origin of the barah obsession.
lol pradz!
waiting to bear the redundant 60 children
no second is redundant man. even if it’s called second and not first.
that apart, this was lovely.
asuph.
FREEEZE!!
What a lovely concept! somebody put the clock into the freezer to freeze the moment- ok atleast could somebody invent a rewind button and a fast forward button that we may fiddle with as per our whims….
loved the read pradz!
and yea the best photos of 2005 at secure site was superb!
Ardra
Loved it
Pradz…perhaps this is how memories are created. You steal a slice of time and no one else can ever reclaim it…time stops, till someone decides to start it again.
But I digress, I loved the plot. write more please.
Scarlett
DUUUUUUUUUDE!!!!! :-)

I imagine cuckoos holding a dharna or bhook hartal in front of your house!
