Old Love

Old love hanging around the room
Shuffling from a corner to another
Getting in the way, stumbling along
Awkwardly pausing by the doorknob
Before daring to make an exit

I know this isn’t the last
We have seen of each other
You will be back some evening
An unacknowledged guest
An old chair in the corner reclaimed
Your luggage of memories unpacked
All over my clean floor

Some days your deafening silence
Will drown out all my words
As you appear in every frame
I try to wipe out failingly
And I will be kind to you yet again
And let you stay because you are old
And because you have nowhere else to go

Do me a favour this time please
When you turn up unannounced
Leave your memories at the door
And tell me when you are ready to say goodbye
Because sometimes my eyes hurt
When I know that I have lost you again
And when the only footsteps I hear are mine.

This was good

I liked it.

loved it

every bit. very nice.

Some days your deafening silence
Will drown out all my words

“drown” says more about the silence than what “deafening” does to silence. i mean why use “deafening”? Smiling

oh man

the last stanza kicked some ass.
