And Crys slays a holy cow :)

Round one: You truly must’ve been vacationing on Mars the last few months to not notice it, but Crys’ ongoing spoof-series is a *huge* hit.

But what’s almost as interesting and entertaining is the soap-opera in progress on the sidelines. [all credits to peppy for the heads-up]

Round two: Let’s just say another blogger decided to get on a saffron-ka-ghoda and let loose with some choice vitriol . [Trivia: if you have the time & patience to read all the comments, you’ll find that someone found it fit to pick up on DSS-buckwaas as well]. The irony being that this blogger uses the handle “hawkeye” - anyone who’s watched even a single episode of M.A.S.H knows that the character Hawkeye’s prime virtue is all-around-irreverence, stuffed to his gills. Quite a contrast to our good friend here.

Round three: Another prominent blogger Gaurav Sabnis takes up cudgels.

After suitable end-of-soap-opera-episode ending [frozen gestures and all that] ….

Round four: The saffron-jhanda-wala rides again.

… and the show goes on …

More power to you, Crys. May the strength of those lost-in-vanvaas-souls be with you … what would we do without a healthy weekly dose of pre-emptive celibacy-vows & the like Smiling

err whiner

If I remember correctly , mahabharata was on DD on sunday mornings. And yeah I was old enough to know that niyog padyati or whatever they were calling crys’s dating service was a lotta wool being pulled over some eyes. Okie that prolly makes me a weird kid but whatever Sticking out tongue

bilbobaggins's picture

I really dont understand

why a bunch of ppl are getting their knickers in a knot here. I remember watching B.R Chopra’s mahabharata and it was a sex fest even then. Don’t remember ppl getting so aggravated then, must be my selective amnesia acting up again.
Its not like crys is twisting the facts in her version. she is just restating them in a more err interesting way Sticking out tongue
And man is it interesting . love it .

Damn my cable waalah must

Damn my cable waalah must have been feeding my household with the wrong (read non-sexed up) signals.. Don’t really remember seeing any juicy fest back then.. Maybe i need to checkout the re-runs to see what exactly is bilbs refererring to.. Waiting

Crys...

To hell with all those saffron clad hypocrites! You rock..Smiling The comments on hawkeye’s blog so make for some hilarious reading… they’ve picked up on buckwaas too?! i shud check it out..

@ ssm,
the mahabharata series was featured on desipundit also, and its *hugely* popular..Smiling

Rethink...

“The point is, someone else’s interpretation of a certain thing, is exactly that, someone else’s interpretation. Not a direct shot at his belief’s or views. There is nothing more to it, nothing less to it. One would think that is defacto way to think for everyone, but apparently not.”

whoaa!! I suggest you re-think about calling Blur’s (nice band!)work “interpretation”. Nowhere is there even a scent of such a notion!! There is a very interesting element called identity that plays a huge role in all this. One that needs further exploration before we can pass relativist judgements.

whoopsie daisy

i swear the above was my last say on the topic..but akash sahi’s [hello to ya btw] comments beg for a response [and well, its 7 pm on a saturday night and i am kinda bored sitting at home but thats supposedly besides the point].

First off, what accomplishments are we talking of here? GMAT scores? [which for some reason suddenly are a standard of intelligence]. I dont think the comments are pointing out to the fact that he is either non-supportive of women [or frankly care for] neither does anyone wants to dissect his opinions to say, oh yeah, he thinks littering is bad.he must be a tolerant guy. The point is, someone else’s interpretation of a certain thing, is exactly that, someone else’s interpretation. Not a direct shot at his belief’s or views. There is nothing more to it, nothing less to it. One would think that is defacto way to think for everyone, but apparently not.

Well

No. I never mentioned GMAT score.I wonder why you mentioned GMAT. I see that someone else has mentioned it in hawkeye’s comments section. The bschool he is studying is a top-notch school. As a person who knows bschool business I can say the guy is not an idiot. But thats besides the point.

You mentioned saffron etc. I think it is stereotyping someone soon. I thought he had balanced views on all subjects and he took exception to crystal. So he disagrees with crystal (and you). Thats all to it. Why bring in prudism saffron etc? Weak logic. I would have been happy if gaurav and you attacked his logic instead of stereotyping him and mocking him. Because the stereotyping frankly doesnt seem to be true. And it makes me think “what is your point?”. He disagress with crystal and you disagree with him. So whats the diff between you two? Gaurav seems to be pretty weak in the whole issue. Infact very unintelligent. I see him as opportunistic. Hawkeye’s questions to him were pretty logical. My opiniion is dont judge anybody too soon. See the whole picture. That is my experience.

Anyway. This whole blog is an interesting technology. Im impressed. I should start my own maybe.

stick My neck out to say...

that it has been a one sided affair so far. The critiques have all been personal and have not stuck to conveying the issues. Time for something more fair and balanced Eye-wink The author on her blog writes about the “infringement of their sacred moral ideals that they themselves arbitrarily define or make up”. Forget the snob factor or the sneering condescension in that statement, it raises some interesting questions about content, it’s use and misuse. I hope to blog a well reasoned critique tommorow…….that is if I don’t get plastered and wasted before then !!

Good job Crys!!

All those 4077 vitriolic comments on all those blogs have not dampened our crys’ spirit. Keep writing girl. Its time we emphasized it thanks to SSM.

lol @ comments here.

I am new to all this

It looks like hawkeye is a very intelligent guy. Apart from his accomplishments which are btw very good, I see him to be totally irreverent. I spent 2 hours reading his blog. He seems supportive of women issues and mocks every bad habit we have in India.

What you think finally is up to you, but you have called him saffron too soon, based on just one post. Maybe I am slightly older than all you folks and tend not judge so soon.

SSM

Hey thanks for the support. It keeps me motivated to write the series. BTW can you or any of the readers translate this article about me?
Go to: http://gilli.wordpress.com/tag/%e0%ae%a8%e0%ae%95%e0%af%8d%e0%ae%95%e0%a…
I suspect its in tamil but I may be wrong.
Thanks in advance,
Crys

you're welcome, crys

.. the least i could do to keep your engine stoked Smiling

Yup, that’s in tamil.

my best peter-attempt (pls. feel free to correct me, all you tamil-experts):

“wow - didn’t know you could parody the Mahabharatha in this fashion. but [links to] “intro, parts1 thru 5” are great fun. [link to]”some folks appear to have gotten upset”, but in my opinion, the series can be enjoyed as pure humor”.

wow

havent read anything by the great bong guy, but that sure is one of the most educated salvos i’ve seen around…and LOL@humsafar startin it all–who knew!

self just worries my sambhar-defence, for wot its worth, will give way to sheer statistics and numbers indicating biased majorities.

who knew the humsafar connection :)

hey buck,

that was an interesting blog by the bong guy … and LOL @ the humsafar connection. All together now - “It’s A Small World, After All” !

and peps gets the credit for drawing my attention to this whole side-story - she posted the links on the shoutbox & i posted the update-blog Smiling

i agree with

peppy…and give up even before attempting faux outrage… Sticking out tongue

this whole thing has been a riot…the avalanche of popularity and watching it from the sidelines… Smiling

i think the credit for starting the snowball rolling should go to our own humsafar, who posted a comment on greatbong’s site from where everyone else picked up…

and btw ssm, ur round 3 needs to include this salvo by greatbong as well

ROTFL @ the hotlipped-Frank-Burns Smiling

[and now, in solemn tribute, the next 20 minutes will be devoted to finding out when MASH re-runs are televised in my zip code]

Peppy's picture

i am sorry but..

ssm, i find that offensive that you could post this blog here. i love saffron, and flags–do you KNOW anything of the color saffron to speak of it? do you know of its rich heritage to brazenly say “saffron jhanda wala” like so? you are making the color and the article in question into a spoof–what gives you that right? and why saffron? why not red and yellow? the problem with saffron is we allow it to be mocked, so in the end, we orangelovers are made fun of.

oh SHOOT, i give up..but yep, Frank Burns does not a hawkeye become, just as a saffron flag does not become hotlips.

let the love flow i say, and the hate stop..coz hawkeye once said “Without love, what are we worth? 89 cents. 89 cents worth of chemicals walking around lonely. “
