Where the Koel Sings...

Those that roamed the streets with you hunting for summer’s bounty have now moved away. The streets have changed; the trees are no longer there. The loved one that held your hand as you waited in line for ice-cream is now a black and white photograph on your dressing table.

Three Books

This is not a book review by any stretch of imagination. However, due to lack of imagination while creating my tags, I’ve tagged this post as a book review.

Fruit Fight

(Here’s something I found that I’d written almost three years back!)

The fruits were sitting in a bowl
A pretty glass bowl it was
But they were in a very bad mood
and it was all because
the apple declared that he was the best,
for he didn’t have any flaws

Ramble as usual

A bit of this, a bit of that, bit of both and most of nothing

Play...

Recently I heard the news that one of my favorite supergroups the legendary ‘Return to forever’ will reunite [ Return to Forever to reunite in 2008 ] And I have been looking forward to some really exciting live performances being recorded during this summer. Chick Corea has been a favourite musician of mine for as long as I remember. And I’ve been a fan of Bobby McFerrin ever since I heard ‘Dont worry be happy’ on the soundtrack of the movie ‘Cocktail’.

Sunday's Special - Freedom

Part One is the blog below

“There i am sure some nice guys will get in at this stop.” Our faces lit up with hope.

A look outside and that decided it for us.

“Girls, it’s Sunday, we can’t be here. We have to get out of this smelly bus.”

“LL, it’s your call. What do you say?”

“I don’t want to be here either. But how? What do we tell them? Is it not going to be so very rude of us?”

“Look i would rather be rude than stay here”

“can’t we just get out without telling anything?”

Sunday's Special - Red Bus

I used to be an avid hiker couple of years back. Together with friends and family, we would visit even more exotic places of the already exotic island. I would climb mountains with the agility of a …monkey?, get down cliffs through the rope like … a monkey? I used to feel so proud of myself? Oh and specially when people would pause to clap?? I still tell people I ‘hike’, though I can’t remember the last time I went for a ‘randonnée’/hiking trip. I think I love saying over and over how sporty I am, I love the projection of a sporty me in the minds of others!

Digging

I think I’ve dug deep enough
No treasure here
I didn’t have a map
Perhaps
that was the problem
all along

Figurative Womb

It’s not very often that I am able to take away a meaningful message from a Bollywood flick so I had to write about it. The movie in question is Laaga Chunari Me Daag.

The story is an old chestnut overdone Bollywood-style. A family of four in a decaying mansion - the mother spinning the years away Arachne-like on the sewing machine, the idle father hoping the next lottery ticket will reverse the tide of his fortune and the two pretty daughter unequipped to seek a better future.

The Lighter

It was this lighter that I had purchased in a tiny village in the middle of a jungle, next to a beautiful river with class 1-3 rapids.
I’d purchased it because it had a tiny LED light in it - it was a torch as well. And the place where I was staying had power outages all the time, and I had forgotten to pack my flashlight.

So, as was predictable, the lights went out in the evening when i was having an animated conversation with some friends in the room upstairs.

Aw…let me find the candle.

Its in the corner there.

A Letter

Darling,
I got the note you left on the fridge this morning. Thanks, but I’m confused. I thought we had discussed your trip in detail, and you had decided not to go. What made you change your mind overnight?

Is this anything to do with Saloni? You were really not very nice to her last night, considering that she is your best friend, and that she took the trouble to come down all the way from Delhi to give you a surprise visit.

The Namesake - Part I

TOTCS (the one they call Stuckinkindergarten) has always been fascinated by the concept of bloggers meeting up in real life. DSS provided ample examples with people getting together across the globe, often meeting up more regularly in real life than online. From his fortress of solitude TOTCS watched as friendships formed, love blossomed, people got married, some feelings were hurt. In Dec 2006 TOTCS took the important first step from the virtual to real world after discovering that he had more in common with a fellow DSSer than just taste in music.

Inspiration

Dad’s house needed painting, so he asked a painter to come along on
Monday to paint the house. When at 8am, the guy still didn’t turn up,
father of mine grew restless… He waited some more and then decided
to go check out the guy at his home.

When Tshok the dad knocked, Painter’s father answered.

“Goodmorning, am looking for MrPainter. Is he there?,” Tshok said.

“You are looking for my son, eh? He is not a painter, he is an artist”
PainterzDad replied.

Tshok, a bit perplexed, still insisted on seeing the artist son.

God Particles by Thomas Lux

God Particles by Thomas Lux is his eleventh book of poetry. His verses contain rather striking and unusual images that disturb or amuse at first and then coalesce into feelings more lasting than the initial reaction. Look at some of the titles in this collection: “Hitler’s slippers,” “Sleep ambulance,” “Stink eye,” “Gravy boat goes over the waterfall,” “Jesus’ baby teeth,” “Apology to my neighbors for beheading their duck,” “The deathwatch beetle,” “Sex after funerals,” “Toad on golf tee,” and the title poem, “God particles.”

Trainspotting

Nobody read Mid-Day for news-stories. For most people (like me) Mid-Day was a paper which served your daily dose of soft porn. Just turn to page 3, and you were greeted by a fresh & sultry “Mid-Day Mate” - a hot young female in various stages of undress. There was once a phase when the mates got even hotter & went topless for couple of months. Before you wonder what the big fuss is about, let me remind you, we are talking about the 1980s & early 90s here. Topless was huge thing back then, plus I was about 15/16 years old.

Manohar And Rohan

The story of Manohar and his son Rohan is also the story of the Indian middle class renaissance, a transformation that happened between three to four decades. Manohar was in his teens at the height of the Naxalite movement. He observed from the sidelines but never participated - he did not buy into the ideology.

Hello!

Am I still allowed to hang about here? Smiling

Howdy folks! Trust y’all are doing well….

This is just a test to see if I am allowed to post stuff Smiling

Spring

Hello my madcaps
Have a good spring and enjoy the sunshine!!
Smiling

When the world lies dreamless
Floating in a timeless abyss
Pushing through rock and gravel
Inching upward they travel
Little forgotten miracles
Hyacinths, tulips, daffodils
Breaking the ground with life anew
Heralding beginnings in every hue

Pop Mothering

When you have the Deepak Chopra brand on your side you can write a book called 100 Questions from My Child and get a bunch of endorsements when in fact content at random places on the web gives you both food for thought and chuckle in far more generous portions.
